Beta-pinene

Beta-pinene is a monoterpene compound

Occurring often as a minor constituent in cannabis' essential oil makeup. It's closely related to its sister isomer alpha-pinene.

This phytochemical carries a fragrance and taste reminiscent of pine needles, rosemary and dill. The scent is green, fresh, slightly woody and resinous. Some also detect hints of basil, parsley or oranges.

True to its coniferous leaning, beta-pinene appears most prevalently across various pine tree species as a prime component of their bio-synthesized pinene resins. It also occurs in notable concentrations within European parsley and rosemary.

Research indicates beta-pinene exhibits a number of promising medicinal properties:

• Potent anti-inflammatory capabilities comparable to pharmaceutical options
• Demonstrated antimicrobial effects against certain virulent bacteria like MRSA
• Appears to inhibit growth of some cancer cells in vitro
• Confers bronchodilating effects that may relieve asthma
• Boosts local anesthesia effectiveness; speeds transdermal delivery

While generally not the dominant terpene in most strains, the presence of beta-pinene likely interacts synergistically with other major terpenoids to augment potential therapeutic attributes through an "entourage effect".
